Megan's family
I have a big blank spot on the wall that I have been saving for a family photo, so when all the kids were home at Christmas I jumped at the chance. It’s been about 3 years since our last family photo. I was inspired by this photo from the TV show Modern Family. I like how the Modern Family celebrates each family member as an ‘individual’ and wanted to capture the same feeling. Both Honey and I went seaching for the ‘perfect wall’. I wanted the wall to be in neutral tones so that the background was only secondary to the main event – my family! This tone/colour also matched the decor I have in the room which is always an important aspect to consider when planning a photoshoot.
My husband Kim and I have a blended family with 6 kids – Jesse 21, Khyle 20, Holly 17, Tane 13, Zafiah 12 and Violet 4. The shot I was after for the wall included all our children, our extended family, Erica (Jesse’s girlfriend) and Simon (Holly’s boyfriend) and of course the dogs, Candy and Lulu. So this is us… one big bunch of personalities thrown together to equal a family. Sometimes we struggle with everyone being so different but when it comes down to it, that’s what makes it interesting and I wouldn’t have it any other way. When I look at this shot I feel so grateful to have all these divine individuals in my life and it makes me feel complete. That’s why it will take pride of place…. HUGE on my wall so I can feel that gratitude every day.
