The circus is in town.

My youngest daughter turned 5 last month and we celebrated in a big way with a circus themed party. I have never had so much fun planning a party and the build up and anticipation was exhilarating! We decided on a circus theme because…
1. Violet is quite the performer. She loves putting on a hula hoop show and is far from shy.
2. The circus really is the happiest place! Who doesn’t love the circus.
We enjoyed fresh fairy floss that the kids ( and big kids ) absolutely loved. Spite and Malice  the circus performers entertained the kids with fire breathing, acrobatics, juggling and other circus tricks. I loved watching the kids faces during the performances – they were spell bound. All the children came dressed as their favorite circus character. There were lions, acrobats, fortune tellers, ring leaders, strong men and clowns. The costumes were fabulous and made me smile all afternoon. We even dressed our dogs up… we colored hair sprayed candy to make her ‘The amazing rainbow dog’ and I custom made Lulu a lions maine. These two are very untrustworthy around party food though so were banished to the kissing booth (where they couldn’t escape) for the length of the party. For party food we had hotdogs, popcorn, star shortbreads, marshmallow ice creams and clown cupcakes. Sweeter than sugar did an amazing job of the cake and Violet was surprised when she cut it to find the inside was rainbow colored. It tasted as good as it looked too!  I asked Violet what her favorite part of the party was and her reply was ‘When I blew out my candles, everyone sang Happy Birthday and the confetti fell from the sky on me’.  It really was ‘the greatest show on earth’ and Violet had the happiest of birthdays full of excitement, entertainment and color. When she is grown I really hope Violet remembers this party and the joy of childhood that it was filled with, if she doesn’t I certainly will. I don’t know who had more fun though… me or her 🙂
